There are people who discover who they are because life opens doors for them. But for Denis, he discovered himself because every door seemed to close first.
As a recipient of Discipline’s Honor Scholarship (70%) and an additional 30% Financial Aid, Denis is pursuing his dream with 100% tuition support. His journey, however, began long before that opportunity arrived.
Abandoned as a child and raised in a difficult family environment, Denis spent much of his early life hearing what he could not do. Every opportunity was questioned, every ambition dismissed. By the time he was a teenager, believing in himself felt far more difficult than believing in everyone else.
⭐ When self-belief became the hardest lesson
Everything began to change at sixteen, when Denis discovered Erasmus+ youth projects in Romania. Joining these projects introduced him to people from different communities, different backgrounds, and different ways of thinking. For the first time, he was surrounded by people who encouraged him to ask questions, share ideas, and recognize strengths that he had never been allowed to see in himself.
⭐ Success meant coming home with purpose
The extracurriculars transformed the way he viewed both himself and his future. Rather than asking what he could gain from education, Denis began asking what he could bring back.
“When being asked, ‘What can you bring home?’ my answer became clear,” he said. “I bring myself. I bring my knowledge back to my community.”
That purpose became even stronger after he was forced to leave home at eighteen. Without a stable support system, Dennis had to rebuild his life independently while continuing his education. Instead of allowing hardship to define him, he sought out people who believed in growth, pursued new learning opportunities, and continued volunteering with youth organizations.
⭐ Turning lived experience into a lifelong mission
These experiences also led him to psychology. Having experienced the importance of being heard, understood, and supported during difficult moments, Denis became determined to learn how people heal, grow, and rediscover their potential. For him, psychology is not simply an academic discipline. It is a way to help others find the confidence that took him years to build.
On his way to pursuing a degree at VinUniversity, Denis hopes to create programs and organizations that support young people facing challenges similar to his own. He believes every individual deserves someone who sees possibility before limitation.
Denis’ journey has never been about proving people wrong. It has always been about proving that circumstances do not decide a person’s future.
