⭐️ The start of a Full-ride journey
When Lauren left the Philippines to join VinUniversity as a recipient of the Vingroup Full-Ride Scholarship for Filipino Talents, she arrived with more than excitement for a new chapter. She also carried a sense of responsibility.
“The scholarship is honestly such an honor to receive,” Lauren shared. “Because of that, I always try my best in everything that I do.”
For Lauren, receiving a full scholarship was never something to simply celebrate. Instead, it became a reminder to make the most of every opportunity available to her, both inside and outside the classroom.

️⭐️ Bringing the Filipino spirit into healthcare
Growing up in the Philippines, Lauren was surrounded by a culture that values community, compassion, and caring for others. Those values played a major role in shaping her decision to pursue Nursing.
At VinUniversity, she has found an environment that reinforces those qualities while challenging her to strengthen them with knowledge, research, and evidence-based practice.
“It’s a very big part of our culture that we care for other people, and we really focus on the value of community,” Lauren reflected. “At VinUniversity, those values are also emphasized with theory. So that I’m not only leading with the heart, but I’m also leading with my brain when taking care of patients.”

⭐️ Beyond Nursing lectures
As a first-year Nursing student, Lauren spends much of her time studying anatomy, healthcare ethics, and the foundations of patient care. Yet some of her most valuable learning experiences have taken place beyond lectures and laboratories.
Alongside her coursework, Lauren is actively involved in research projects exploring topics such as cancer and psychology. Through research, she has developed stronger critical thinking skills while learning how evidence and scientific inquiry shape the future of healthcare.
At the same time, she also works with the Admissions Office, supporting prospective international students who are considering studying at VinUniversity.
While these experiences may seem unrelated at first glance, Lauren sees a common thread connecting them all.
“Many people think extracurricular activities are separate from Nursing,” she explained. “But I see them as opportunities to develop skills that will help me become a better nurse.”

⭐️ Finding connections in unexpected places
Research has taught Lauren how to ask questions, analyze information, and approach challenges with curiosity. Working with Admissions has taught her how to listen, communicate with empathy, and support students who are navigating important decisions about their future. Together, these experiences have helped her realize that becoming a healthcare professional is about far more than mastering technical skills.
Whether speaking to prospective students, collaborating on research projects, or caring for future patients, the ability to understand people remains at the heart of everything she does.
Looking back on her first year, Lauren realizes that growth often happens in places she never expected. Sometimes it happens in a classroom. Sometimes it happens during research discussions. Sometimes it happens while helping another student feel a little more confident about taking their own leap into the unknown.
For Lauren, university is not simply about earning a degree. It is about embracing every opportunity to learn, contribute, and grow. Because becoming a great nurse starts long before stepping into a hospital. It begins with a willingness to keep learning wherever the opportunity appears.
