English Proficiency Requirements

Applicants may be exempt from submitting English proficiency test scores if they meet all of the following conditions:

  1. Have studied or graduated from a full-time international program (e.g., A-Level, IB). This does not include bilingual programs or cases where only individual A-Level certificates are taken.

  2. Have studied in English for at least two consecutive years.

If verification is required, VinUniversity will request official confirmation from the high school principal or an authorized representative of the institution where the applicant has studied/is studying.

If applicants do not have an IELTS score, they may submit other equivalent standardized English test results, such as TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge English Qualifications, or VSTEP. For detailed requirements on overall scores and individual skill bands, please read more HERE.

Beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year, VinUniversity will discontinue the Pathway English Advanced courses. Students who achieve an overall IELTS score of 6.0 (with no sub-score below 6.0) or equivalent, or an overall 6.5+ with only one (01) individual band score below 6.0 (or equivalent), may be granted conditional admission or waitlisted.

No, since 2026, VinUniversity requires all incoming students to have an IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with no individual band below 6.0) or an equivalent qualification. Therefore, the English test organized by VinUniversity and the English Pathway program will no longer be offered from the 2026 academic year. Read more HERE.

At VinUniversity, all students, regardless of their background or nationality, are required to take a compulsory course on academic writing and study skills in their first year. In addition, a range of elective communication courses is available to help students develop and enhance various skills.
