VinUni Conference: The Vietnam Industry Innovation Research (VIIR)

The 2022 edition of the Global Innovation Index (GII), which was published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), reveals Vietnam’s ranking as 48th out of 132 countries and economies worldwide. In Southeast Asia, Vietnam holds the third position, following Singapore (7th) and Thailand (43rd). The GII report provides an insightful analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, key challenges, outstanding issues, as well as opportunities associated with innovation for each country. Subsequently, nations have made necessary adaptations to their mechanisms and policies in order to foster socio-economic advancement grounded in science, technology, and innovation.
How can innovation within a particular industry/sector influence a country’s index? What impact does the sector-level index have on policymakers’ decisions? These fundamental questions drive the research project conducted by VinUniversity’s esteemed research team in collaboration with Professor Soumitra Dutta, well-known as the “father” of the Global Innovation Index (GII). The project, titled Vietnam Industry Innovation Research (VIIR), aims to delve into the realm of industry-level innovation in Vietnam.
This groundbreaking research represents the pioneering study in Southeast Asia and the sole comprehensive assessment of industry-level innovation in Vietnam. It rigorously examines various critical factors such as the business environment, technology, human resources, leadership, and innovation across three distinct dimensions: business, society, and environment. The three sectors under scrutiny for the year 2023 encompass:
– Healthcare & Medical (encompassing hospitals and pharmaceuticals)
– Hospitality – Hotels, tourism
– Retail – Commercial leasing within the retail sector
On June 14th, Professor Soumitra Dutta, along with VinUni’s esteemed research team, will unveil the outcomes of the aforementioned VIIR Industry Innovation Research Report at VinUni University. Professor Soumitra Dutta holds the distinguished position of being the Dean of Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. He is also the former founding Dean of Cornell SC Johnson Business School at Cornell University in the United States. Additionally, he serves as a member of the Prize Committee for the prestigious VinFuture Award since 2023. Notably, Professor Dutta is the visionary behind the creation and co-editorship of the annual Global Innovation Index reports, a collaborative publication with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
