Ultrasensitive Lateral Flow Immunochromatography for Low-Cost Cancer Screening
Ultrasensitive Lateral Flow Immunochromatography for Low-Cost Cancer Screening

Successful applicants will join the project as Master’s students / PhD students at the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), VinUniversity.
Project Information
This project aims to develop an ultrasensitive lateral flow immunochromatography (LFIA) platform for low-cost and widely accessible cancer screening.
Leveraging recent advances in nanomaterials, signal amplification strategies, and biomarker specificity, the proposed system seeks to overcome the sensitivity limitations of conventional lateral flow immunochromatography technologies.
The project is co-supervised by faculty and researchers from VinUniversity and the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign (UIUC), with the participation of medical professionals from the Vinmec Healthcare System.
The research team includes: Dr. Nguyen Dang Tung (Principal Investigator) | Prof. Joseph Irudayaraj (UIUC) | Prof. Do Ngoc Minh (UIUC, VinUni) | MD. Doan Mai Phuong (Vinmec) | MD. Nguyen Thi Hang (Vinmec)
Research Objectives
The project focuses on the following key objectives:
(i) Develop an ultrasensitive lateral flow immunochromatography platform for low-cost cancer screening.
(ii) Apply nanomaterials and signal amplification techniques to enhance detection sensitivity beyond existing LFIA systems.
(iii) Exploit the specificity of cancer biomarkers to improve screening reliability.
