Green Serverless Computing for Resource-Efficient AI Training
Green Serverless Computing for Resource-Efficient AI Training

Successful candidates will join the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), VinUni as PhD students, MSc research students, or Research Assistants.
Project Information
The rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) has brought many breakthrough applications, but behind this success lies a major challenge: training AI models currently consumes massive amounts of energy and computing resources, leading to high costs and growing environmental concerns.
The project “Green Serverless Computing for Resource-Efficient AI Training”, led by Assoc. Prof. Kok-Seng Wong, Assist. Prof. Do Danh Cuong and Assist. Prof. Le Duy Dung, aims to develop a green serverless AI training architecture that minimizes energy consumption and operational costs while advancing sustainability.
The serverless approach enables flexible allocation of computing resources on cloud platforms (AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions, Azure Functions) with automatic scaling based on demand, thereby optimizing resource utilization. The research team will deploy real-world test cases and compare them with traditional computing models to evaluate benefits in terms of energy efficiency, cost savings, and CO₂ emission reduction.
Project Goals
This research aims to design and evaluate a green serverless computing architecture that supports resource-efficient AI training. Specifically seek to:
– Reduce the carbon footprint of AI workloads.
– Improve energy efficiency through dynamic, event-driven resource allocation.
– Demonstrate scalability and practical viability on real-world use cases (e.g., digital twins and EV charging).
The project aims to deliver a sustainable, cost-efficient AI training solution that is more accessible to startups, researchers, and enterprises, while contributing to global efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the digital era.
