Advancing Sustainable Electric Vehicle Charging through Green Infrastructure and Smart Charging Techniques

Successful candidates will join as PhD students / Master’s researchers / Research Assistants at the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), VinUni.

Project Information 

The transition toward green transportation requires an urgent shift to EV charging infrastructures that are both sustainable and cost-efficient. Traditional charging stations rely heavily on the power grid, creating stress on national energy systems while underutilizing renewable sources.

Led by Dr. Do Danh Cuong, this project develops a novel green EV charging testbed that integrates solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) to reduce grid dependence. At the same time, the team builds a digital twin model to simulate, forecast, and optimize system performance. A key highlight of the project is the design of smart charging algorithms that synchronize EV demand with renewable supply, ensuring reliability, reducing CO₂ emissions, and minimizing costs.

Key Research Objectives: 

  • Build a real-world green charging station testbed for data collection and algorithm validation.
  • Develop a digital twin of EV smart charging networks for simulation and optimization.
  • Design and implement advanced smart charging techniques that maximize renewable energy usage while lowering cost and emissions.
  • Validate models against real-world testbed data to evaluate environmental and economic impact, and propose scalable solutions.

The project aims to establish a replicable model of sustainable and intelligent EV charging infrastructure, scalable for cities and industrial zones in Vietnam, contributing directly to the country’s renewable energy and carbon reduction strategies.
