THE OPPORTUNITY 

VinUniversity is delighted to announce a one-year post-doctoral research position in Environmental Anthropology, focusing on bio-cultural diversity of Vietnam. This is a full-time position based at VinUniversity’s Center for Environmental Intelligence (CEI). The candidate will work as part of a multi-national, multi-cultural research team and with diverse cultural experts in Vietnam. This is a one-year appointment as a contract employee. Possibility of a second-year extension will be based on performance and fund availability.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The post-doc will be expected to be a regular and active participant in the intellectual and social life of VinUni. They will carry out original and collaborative research in their field, under the direction of the PI, which will include co-authoring, publishing, and other forms of disseminating research results to diverse stakeholders. Conditions permitting, they may accompany other VinUni faculty and students on short-term field expeditions to field sites and/or scholarly conferences in Vietnam. They may be invited to participate in educational and co-curricular activities, under supervision of VinUni faculty, and will contribute to the newly created Vietnam Studies minor in the College of Arts and Sciences. There are no teaching duties, other than an occasional invited guest lecture, as this is a research position. Priority will be placed on co-authoring and publishing 3 papers per year in Q1/Q2 Scopus indexed journals.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • A PhD awarded by a Vietnamese or international accredited university within the past 5 years, in Cultural Anthropology, Bio-Diversity Studies, or adjacent fields
  • Evidence of active research experience and scholarly publications in their specialization
  • Native or fluent Vietnamese speaker, with adequate English speaking and writing proficiency to work effectively at an English-medium university and with researchers who do not speak Vietnamese.
  • Willingness to locate in Hanoi and to hold this position as their sole fulltime employment during the term of the contract. (For a candidate who has other commitments, we may consider a 0.5 appointment.)
  • Experience working in video medium and/or with indigenous peoples is highly relevant but not required.
